“It’s Like You Can Feel What I’m Going Through!” Being an Intuitive Empath and a Nutrition Coach.
Feb 22, 2024
“I swear, I feel like you’re in my head!”
“Your email was exactly what I needed, how did you know?”
“It’s like you can feel what I’m going through!”
“I’ve never even thought of it like that! How could I have not seen this all this time?!”
I’m a Fitness Nutritionist. I’m also an Intuitive Empath. I’m pretty sure I’ve been an intuitive empath for longer than a Fitness Nutritionist, but it’s only been for the past two years that I’ve come to learn this about myself, and step into harnessing and honing these skills to benefit my clients.
What is an Intuitive Empath?
An Intuitive empath is a person who has an unusual capacity for sensing and understanding the feelings of others. Intuitive empaths know what others feel without needing to be told. They also have an unusually sharp sense for whether someone is being truthful or lying. Among many other traits, they can’t stand to see the suffering of others. Which is why most intuitive empaths end up going into helping/healing roles. It’s also why, when nutrition came into my life, ending a lucrative 10 year career in PR wasn’t a choice – it was mandatory. Now, 4 years later, as I’ve built my nutrition practice and harnessed and grown into the role of being an intuitive empath, I know that this is exactly where I’m supposed to be and I now apply this amazing gift in ways I never thought possible to give my clients an experience like no other.
Being an Intuitive Empath and a Nutrition Coach
Although I believe that I’ve always been an intuitive empath, I haven’t always felt the full expression of it until recent years. In fact I used to be the complete opposite. The life of the party, I thrived in big social gatherings and loved being at events, dinners, and clubs surrounded by people and all the buzz. Now – I find it completely draining. My anxiety reaches almost intolerable levels and I tend to take a lot of ‘bathroom’ breaks, or go outside with smokers (I don’t smoke) just to have a minute to decompress.
I can walk into a room and if someone is angry or upset, I immediately feel it emotionally and physically and will carry it with me long after the experience, and I won’t even know them. I’ve been told I’m ‘too sensitive’ and a lot of people in my life can’t understand why it takes me so long to get over things – but it’s just something that I have to work through in my own time and my own way.
As a nutrition coach, this gift has been able to help me serve my clients on such a deep and therapeutic level. Although extremely rewarding, can also be extremely draining. As a self-care strategy, I try to batch my major client work on Saturdays. Because of all the emotion and energy involved, I typically develop a headache during the sessions and have it for most of the day following them. I also cry a lot – in an effort to help release the energy because I take on a lot of people’s suffering as my own, and absorb so much of it. I require a lot of time to myself to recharge, which doesn’t always happen as a mom, so I try to do a lot of breathing work afterwards, to release as much of the energy from me as possible so I don’t carry it with me into other experiences that may follow.
However, on the days when my clients are open and vulnerable, these sessions can also be incredible. It’s an amazing gift to be able to ‘see’ people on such a deep level, and help them work through the things that are blocking them and come out on the other side. It’s by far the most fulfilling part of my job, and one that I wouldn’t give up for anything.
Working with an Intuitive Empath and What It Can Do For You
Working with an intuitive empath can be a wonderful, healing experience. However in order to reap the benefits, you need to open yourself up to the process. When it comes to nutrition, many clients come in to it with just one goal in mind – weight loss. They don’t care how it happens, they just want to be told what to eat to get rid of the weight. They don’t see how their relationship with food is impacting their body or their life, and as a result, aren’t interested in working towards changing it. These clients tend to be closed off when it comes to their relationships, work, family, personal history and aren’t open to understanding how certain areas in their life my be holding them back. Sadly, as a result, they rarely see the results they desire.
Clients that come into the process with an open mind and heart have an entirely different experience and outcome. Working with these clients, I can not only help them to lose weight and show them how to eat to nourish their bodies – I help them uncover the areas in their lives that are ‘blocking’ them from achieving their goals and together, we move through these ‘blocks’ to actually heal their relationship with food – forever.
Why Incorporating Intuitive and Empathic Elements Creates Lasting Change Compared to Traditional Diets
At the end of the day, if there’s one thing that I have learned from my personal dieting experience and helping countless of others in theirs it’s that:
Lasting weight loss, has nothing to do with food. It has everything to do with the stories that we have created about ourselves and our life, and how those stories impact our relationship with food.
Which is why as a Fitness Nutritionist I now incorporate my intuitive empathic abilities into my coaching with my clients. It not only allows me the ability to help my them overcome their weight and nutrition issues and get the results they desire, but help them heal the issues that are blocking them from achieving their dreams and their relationship with food, so that they can enjoy and maintain those results for the rest of their lives. Which as it turns out, makes for a pretty beautiful business and a lot of happy clients.
